EVESHAM – Cherokee High School senior Gabby Recinto reached 1000th career points in the Chiefs’ 50-23 victory over Rancocas Valley in the first round of the South Jersey Group 4 girls basketball playoffs Feb. 21 here.
Recinto hit her milestone point with a field goal in the second quarter. She finished with a game-high 22 points in leading the Chiefs to their 12th consecutive victory.
The senior, who has accepted a four-year scholarship to Jefferson University in Philadelphia, was instrumental in Cherokee’s run to a fifth sectional championship and second consecutive appearance in the state championship.
“Gabby did what Gabby always has done for us and that was compete,” said Cherokee coach Ron Powell of Recinto’s 22-point performance in a 40-39 loss to Bayonne in the state Group 4 championship March 5.
Recinto, who averaged about 15 points a game this season for the 28-3 Chiefs, represented the South in the New Jersey State All-Star game on March 12 at Rutgers Prep. She will also be playing in the Carino Club All-Star game March 17 at Eastern.
Recinto is ranked fourth in school history with 1089 career points. Ahead of Recinto are Laura Sweeney (2008 graduate; 2037), Isabella Therien (2017 graduate; 1620) and Alexa Therien (2020 graduate; 1283).
Also on the list are Monica Roeder (2010 graduate; 1077), Janel Schillig (1998 graduate; 1053), Tiffany Turner (2010 graduate; 1044) and Kristi McCullough (1998 graduate, 1019).
