Two 25-year-old men from New Jersey were among five arrested in upstate New York last week after being found with multiple forged checks and stolen debit cards when they were pulled over, authorities said.

Troopers stopped their car around 2:30 p.m Friday on Interstate 84 in Newburgh for motor vehicle violations and found it had a fraudulent Georgia temporary license, New York State Police said Monday.

A search of the vehicle then turned up yielded a loaded Glock 27 handgun, $10,000 cash, a stolen United Stated Postal Service key and more than $50,000 in bank receipts for cashing forged checks, officials said

Rayon Thomas, of Paterson, and Gerson A. Polanco, of Passaic, were each charged with two counts of possession of a forged Instrument and criminal possession of a weapon. Both remain held in the Orange County jail Tuesday, according to online jail records.

The three New York men charged with those and additional offenses are Richie D. Guillaume, 22, of Bloomfield; Francisco Tejada-Vargas, 24, of Sleepy Hollow and Jaquil T. Tucker, 22, of Warwick.
