North Hunterdon Thrift Shop is holding a 50 percent off sale on all Halloween décor and costumes and has opened its Christmas Room.
The Christmas Room at the shop, located at 51 County Road 635 (Charlestown Road) in Union Township, “is decorated from top to bottom with beautiful Christmas décor,” according to the shop’s lead volunteer Jane Treece. The holiday items include some Jim Shore Christmas figurines and a fiber optic Christmas tree, she noted. The “warm, cozy décor items” for fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving are displayed in the shop’s entrance area, she said.
Shoppers can find ideas for holiday gifts, Treece said, among the shop’s many items, which include fall and winter clothing, shoes, boots, jewelry, accessories, books, media, toys, housewares, antiques, electronics and vintage items.
During September, besides the sale of 50 percent off on all Halloween items, all clothing with blue or green tags will cost only $1 each. A basket filled with kids’ clothing is still only $5. Shoppers can also check out the Free Table outside at the shop entrance where, Treece said, “you may find free kids’ books, candy dishes or maybe something you didn’t know you needed.”
For the continuing Winter Coat Drive, the shop is asking community members “to help the homeless in our area by donating new or gently-used coats to bring some warmth and comfort to the less fortunate this winter,” Treece said. Adult-sized coats will go to the shop’s mission partner, the nonprofit Safe Harbor, a facility for the homeless in Easton, Pennsylvania. Donated children’s coats will go to various family outreach programs in the county.
The shop continues to collect donated shoes of all types, conditions and sizes to be given to the nonprofit, micro-enterprise program, Soles4Souls (S4S), which distributes them to needy families worldwide, who can repair and sell them to help pay for food, housing and education.
Besides coats and shoes, the shop accepts donations of clean, “good-quality” clothing and home goods. Donations may be dropped off in the outside Donation Shed any day, whether the shop is open or not.
The shop is a ministry of Clinton United Methodist Church. Shop hours are Monday, 8:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 3 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Anyone who wants to be part of an amazing mission and team, meet new people and get a great discount,” Treece said, “ís encouraged to become a North Hunterdon Thrift Shop volunteer.” If interested in volunteering or for more information about the shop, call 908-735-0177 or email office@sentforothers.org.
