It took a while and a red card, but the Union finally got the better of Alianza in the CONCACAF Champions League.

The Union got two goals from Andres Perea and markers from Damion Lowe and Daniel Gazdag to see off the foe from El Salvador, 4-0 in the second leg of the Round of 16 at Subaru Park Tuesday night. They won by the same aggregate score to advance to the quarterfinals.

The game pivoted on Alexis Renderos’ second yellow card in the 40th minute. Lowe opened his Union account five minutes later by heading home a corner kick in the 45th. (The Union had an earlier goal disallowed on video review when Gazdag tipped home a goal-bound corner from an offside position).

Gazdag made it two from the penalty spot in the 62nd after Joaquin Torres was felled in the box by William Canales, again with VAR intervening. Quinn Sullivan set up Perea for his first Union goal in the 81st to ice it, then Perea tapped home a ball from Mikael Uhre three minutes later.

Subbing in for Andre Blake (groin), Joe Bendik had to make just one save for his second straight clean sheet, the Union owning more than 65 percent of possession.
