Somebody in a vehicle “driving erratically” in Aurora on Monday night fatally shot a 48-year-old Denver man who’d pulled up alongside it at a red light and rolled down his window — a case of road rage, police said Tuesday, appealing to the public for help.
The shooting happened shortly before 9:53 p.m. at a stoplight near the intersection of South Havana Street and East Idaho Place in Aurora’s Dayton Triangle neighborhood.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed the shooting stemmed from a road-rage incident,” Aurora police spokesman Joe Moylan said in a news release.
The victim was taken to a hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound and died at the hospital, police said. He wasn’t identified, pending notification of relatives.
No arrests had been made and Aurora police have not identified a suspect. They’re looking for a Ford Explorer, red or maroon with tan trim, Moylan said.
Anyone who was driving on South Havana Street between East Alameda Avenue and East Idaho Place around 9:50 p.m. Monday who may have witnessed an Explorer driving erratically is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
“Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who might have video of the Explorer,” Moylan said.
