Prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge Thursday against an Aurora dentist accused of killing his wife by poisoning her.
Arapahoe County District Attorney prosecutors filed the charge against James Craig, 45, who was arrested Sunday. His wife, Angela Craig, 43, died on Saturday. The charging document says that James Craig, between March 5 and March 21, βunlawfully, feloniously, after deliberation, and with the intent to cause the death of a person other than himself, caused the death of Angela Craig.β
Sheβd felt dizzy and faint and had gone to University Hospital three times this month, according to an Aurora Police affidavit. Police investigators alleged in the affidavit that Craig used a computer at his office to conduct searches about poison and bought arsenic and cyanide that he put in protein shakes he made for his wife.
On Thursday, court officials set a case status hearing for April 7 to address defense motions requesting a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors would have to present their evidence. After that status hearing, a date for a preliminary hearing would be set.
Aurora police Division Chief Mark Hildebrand, in a statement following Craigβs arrest, declared the death βa heinous, complex and calculated murder.β
