A woman was killed and a man riding in the passenger seat of a Mazda was in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon that forced the closure of East Jewell Avenue in Aurora for nearly two hours.
It was the ninth traffic-related fatality in Aurora this year, police said in a news statement posted on Twitter.
The crash happened where East Jewell Avenue meets the E-470 beltway. The Mazda was turning left from the northbound E-470 exit ramp onto East Jewell — in front of a Ford F-150 pickup moving eastward on Jewell, police said. Police and paramedics at the scene evaluated the man at the scene but he was not hospitalized.
Names weren’t released. The Arapahoe County Coroner is expected to identify the woman. Police said they don’t think alcohol was involved and investigators were trying to determine speeds before the crash.
